6 Week Intro to Mindful Self-Compassion Online

October 19, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am

- $120

mindfuf eventThis is a class developed by the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion specifically for online teaching, and it is well-balanced for learning on zoom. Each 75 minute class period will include some teaching of core concepts, some learning and engagement with core practices, and opportunity for small group discussion via breakout rooms. These practices are designed to assist us in developing a felt sense of compassion and in developing a more self-compassionate approach with ourselves. When we learn to turn toward our own suffering with kindness (surprisingly challenging!), it becomes more likely that we will be able to turn toward others with compassion as well. These practices help us establish a loving connected presence – so needed in the world at this time!

In term of participation, it’s important to state you have choices. You are not required to share your experiences with the practices. Sometimes you may wish to, and other times not – it is your choice. We hope that you will consider sharing as that is how we learn – even from a beginner – especially from a beginner! Because beginner’s mind is key. And we learn most from the little challenges and roadblocks we hit. That often is the source of much commonality and even laughter at being human.

It’s also true that we live in a world that isn’t skilled at bringing compassion to ourselves. Therefore, it can be painful to experience this self-kindness at times, much like how our hands and feet can hurt after they’ve been cold for a long time. The focus is always on how we experiences the practices around the challenges in our lives, not the challenges themselves. There is not fixing or advice giving on personal issues! We learn to dip our toes into the water of our suffering and develop a capacity for being with our own pain and challenges with self-kindness. If you discover engaging in the practices is very painful for you, causing more pain and anxiety, then it is not the right time, place or group for you, and I will provide you with resources to pursue availability outside the group. Participants should not use the group as therapy (though it can be therapeutic!), and this group does not treat any conditions or act as a substitute for professional support. My years of experience in facilitating groups provides a safe container for this work.

There are two sections, both 6 weeks. One will be Monday morning 10-11:15am, and the other Wednesday evenings 6:30-7:45pm. There is a cost of $120 for the 6 sessions – please let me know if this is a barrier. You will receive a booklet with all the practices used during the class. CEU’s are available for MN Nurses and Social Workers. It may qualify for continuing ed for other professions as well.
